No. 5 Steele did all it could to keep its reign over northeast suburban neighbors of Judson in the OK3Sports/SA Preps Game of the Week, but the No. 1 Rockets defended its own field to claim its first-ever victory over Steele in eight tries, 35-28. Judson remains unbeaten at 5-0, while the Knights fell to 1-4.

Judson quarterback Julon Williams willed his Rocket offense to a 21-7 halftime lead. As expected, it was a little more difficult to move the football against the talented Steele defense than it had been as Judson rolled to a 4-0 start.

Williams totaled 284 yards and four TDs to lead the way for the Rockets, who led 35-7 after the third quarter. Williams capped off a 10-play drive with a 9-yard TD run with 1:24 remaining. Fans started to head for the exits.

Steele eventually made it interesting. Tylee Tyson’s 6-yard TD run with 8:14 remaining would kickstart the Knights. From that point, Steele QB Onyx Smith would engineer a near comeback by showing his ability to play quarterback and displaying his athleticism. Smith would finish with 190 yards passing and two TDs.

Smith hit Kenney Broadnax on a 20-yard TD strike with 3:20 remaining in the game before Texas commit Caden Sterns recovered an onside kick to give Steele hope. Smith would later find Sterns, who usually lines up on defense, for a 16-yard TD with 1:46 remaining. Judson would recover a second onside kick attempt and would convert a fourth down in the waning seconds to seal the victory.
