The John Nobles Basketball Invitational 2020
History of the tournament:
The John Nobles Invitational, previously called the Moore Invitational, was renamed to honor the late coaching legend. The Moore Invitational was first started in 1976 by John Nobles and was originally a 16-team, all-girls tournament. For 44 years, the invitational has been held right here in the Douglass H. Fredrick Sports Complex. Following John Nobles’ death, the tournament was renamed in his honor during the month of January 1991.
During Coach Nobles’ highly decorated career at Moore High School, he enjoyed many winning seasons, including recognition by the Oklahoma Athletic Hall of Fame. During his 28 years as the girl’s coach for Moore High School, he led the lady lions to a 497-121 record, nine state tournaments, and won three state titles. He was the Daily Oklahoma coach of the year in 1978 and the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the year in 1984. In 1990, Coach Nobles’ coaching career was highlighted when he was voted National Coach-of-The-Year in Girls basketball.
