A Texas-sized upset
The Lake Travis Cavaliers are defending 6A D1 state champions, but were considered to be an underdog entering Saturday’s semifinal showdown against Katy, ranked sixth by MaxPreps and 12th by USA Today.
Instead, the Cavs stunned the Tigers, who entered the game unbeaten, 28-14 at Alamo Stadium in San Antonio.
Lake Travis, 13-2 and ranked 23rd nationally by MaxPreps, used a pair of trick plays to account for its margin of victory. Receivers Garrett Wilson and Hudson Card each threw touchdown passes to the other. Meanwhile, Cavs quarterback Matthew Baldwin also completed 22 of 30 passes for 225 yards.
🚨LOCKED IN!🚨 @LTHSCavFootball SHUT IT DOWN against the big boys from Katy. We’re sure Lake Travis enjoyed that REIGNY day ☂️ #TXHSFB #UILonFOXpic.twitter.com/A1rTJ7aXVF

Things won’t get any easier for Lake Travis in this Saturday’s state championship game. The Cavs will face Allen, ranked third nationally by USA Today and fourth by MaxPreps, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The Eagles easily defeated Cedar Ridge 28-7 on Saturday in their semifinal game.
