Only one state is still playing high school football, and as expected, the Texas high school football season figures to go out with a bang this weekend.
It all culminates Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Here’s the complete schedule and ticket information.
The most highly anticipated matchup, arguably, is the 6A D1 championship game, set for 3 p.m. Saturday, featuring Allen and Lake Travis. Allen (15-0) is ranked fourth nationally by MaxPreps and fifth by USA Today, while Lake Travis is 12th by MaxPreps and 24th by USA Today.
Lake Travis is fresh off an upset of Katy in the state semifinals. Katy entered that game ranked sixth nationally by MaxPreps and 12th by USA Today. Allen, meanwhile, cruised to a 28-7 win over Cedar Ridge in their semifinal game.
On the individual side, the Dallas Morning News has compiled a list of 10 players to watch, across the divisions, in this weekend’s state finals.
In the Allen-Lake Travis matchup, Allen linebacker Jace Waters, quarterback Grant Tisdale and wide receiver Theo Wease and Lake Travis quarterback Matthew Baldwin, who signed Wednesday to play at Ohio State, are among the 10 players the article lists.
In all, Allen had seven players sign their college football letters of intent Wednesday, including three (Brock Sturges, Arizona State; Trey Stratford, Stanford and Carson Schleker, Iowa State) to Power Five conference programs.
