Larry Stephens hauled in a 35-yard touchdown grab from Raheim Moss with 1:13 remaining in the game before Moss ran in the two-point conversion allowing Springfield to defeat Fairfield in dramatic fashion, 15-14.

After fumbling a punt at the 35-yard line, Stephens made up for his miscue by sealing the victory with an interception for Springfield (2-0) in a game that was originally scheduled for Friday but was delayed due to inclement weather.

Trailing 7-0 after the first quarter after Fairfield’s JuTahn McClain scored on a 66-yard run, Springfield got on the scoreboard when Te’Sean Smoot found Michael Brown-Stephens on a 61-yard touchdown pass.

After halftime, Fairfield reclaimed the lead when Jeff Tyus hit Dashaun Simpkins on a 15-yard touchdown strike. Elgin Phillips hit the point after to claim a 14-7 advantage heading into the final quarter of play.

The Wildcats moved to 2-0 with the victory and will face Hudson on Friday night, while Fairfield dropped to 1-1 on the season. Fairfield will visit Hamilton in Week 3.
