Southside quarterback Alejandro Escamilla put on an offensive show Friday night, leading his team to a 45-7 victory against Highlands Owls at SAISD Sports Complex.
Escamilla ran the Cardinals’ offense with accuracy, finishing 12-for-21 for 178 yards and two touchdowns. Receivers Chris Camarillo (23-yard touchdown) and Michael Hernandez (69-yard touchdown) both had a good night, with Hernandez exceeding 201 receiving yards.
Paul Maldonando rushed for 79-yards and two touchdowns, scoring on runs of one and 22-yards for the Cardinals. Alejandro Escamilla added two 1-yard rushing touchdowns.
The Owls could not find the end zone until the top of the 3rd quarter, D’Marrion Gonzales broke away for a 78-yard rushing touchdown.
What’s next?: Both teams square off again next Friday. Southside hosts San Antonio Memorial, and Highlands visits Jefferson.
