Trailing 14-0 after the first quarter, Reagan found its rhythm offensively in the second quarter and withstood a late Schertz Clemens rally to claim a 26-21 victory over the previously unbeaten Buffaloes.

Jackson Macias hauled the opening kickoff back 95 yards for a touchdown before elite junior linebacker Derrick Lewis added to the scoring with a 34-yard pick six. Noah Taylor blasted through both point after attempts to give Clemens the early lead.

Back came the Rattlers, who moved to 2-1 with the victory after losing 35-30 to Cibolo Steele in Week 2. Texas baseball commit Travis Sthele found FBS prospect Konner Fox on a 4-yard touchdown pass to get on the scoreboard.

Fox would later add a 7-yard touchdown run before halftime to tie the score at 14. Fox, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound wide receiver and tight end hybrid, has five touchdown receptions on the season and has Power 5 offers from Duke, Kansas State, and Purdue to go along with in-state interest from Group of Five schools.

On a Hail Mary attempt on the final play of the first half, Clemens was called for defensive holding. Steven Opella nailed a field goal from 46 yards out on an untimed down to give the Rattlers the momentum heading into the locker room.

After the Lucas Eatman and JT Mulligan led defense posted a safety, Sthele found Stayon Akrom on an 11-yard touchdown pass to give the Rattlers a 26-14 lead heading into the final quarter.

With :44 remaining in the game, the Buffaloes made it interesting when Kahliq Paulette found Andrew Edwards on a 24-yard touchdown pass. However, the ensuing onside kick attempt failed, handing the Rattlers a big win before district play.

Reagan will open District 27-6A play against Johnson on Friday night. Johnson snapped Reagan’s district winning streak at 27 games last season en route to the district title. Clemens (2-1) will open 26-6A competition as 0-2 Smithson Valley pays a visit to Lehnhoff Stadium in Schertz on Friday night.
