Lions Football falls to Yellow Jackets in the season opener.
The Oxford Yellow Jackets got their season started off in a dominating fashion on Friday night with a 48-6 win over Munford Lions.
The Yellow Jackets took the field for the first time under, the four-time state championship head coach Keith Etheredge.
J.B. Carlisle rushed for 133 yards on 17 carries, including a 33-yard touchdown run. Roc Taylor added two touchdowns, Traquon Fegans and Jordan Dobbins each scored one touchdown for the Yellow Jackets.
QB Trey Higgins completed 8-of-10 passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns including a 24-yarder to Zay Britt and added 23-yard TD.
Munford got on the scoreboard just before the half, QB Kamron Sandlin connected with Justin Sistrunk with a 21-tard touchdown pass to end the half 34-6.
Oxford finished the game as a team with 380 total yards of offense (283 rushing, 97 passing) while holding Munford to just 21 yards, minus -24 rushing.
The Oxford Yellow Jackets improved to 1-0 with the victory and will battle the Gadsden City Titans in a non-league game on Friday, August 30th. With the loss, Munford moves to 0-1 on the season, they will travel to Talladega to attempt the first win of the 2019 season.
