John Jay 53, Taft 20
John Jay stifled Taft 53-20 in an impressive win Saturday night at Gustafson Stadium, that saw the Mustangs put up 526 yards of offense.
This matchup was highlighted by an impressive performance from John Jay quarterback Jacob Zeno, who finished with two passing and two rushing touchdowns. Zeno needed only 15 attempts to rack up 326 passing yards and two touchdowns.
Zeno, found Jordan Choate with less than three minutes in the first quarter for a 38-yarder to set the tone for John Jay’s offense. Late in the second quarter, Zeno found Danny Amezquita for a 54-yard TD pass. Additionally, Zeno ran six times for 13 yards and two 1-yard touchdowns for the Mustangs, who built a 33-point lead at halftime.
Jaylin Hastings ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns,
Carlos Herrera threw a touchdown pass for the Raiders, while Divonee Tilden rushed for 152 yards on 20 carries scoring on runs of 32 and one yards. Diego Martinez caught a TD pass of 54-yards for the Raiders.
The Mustangs improved to 5-3 with the victory and will face Brandeis on Saturday night at Farris Stadium, while Raiders dropped to 3-5 on the season. Taft will travel to Gustafson Stadium to take on the Stevens Falcons Friday night.
