The Mustangs are first on the scoreboard with a touchdown by Jaden Brewer and a quick 2 point conversion early in the first quarter 8-0. Quarterback Danny Amezquita contunues the pressure in the first quarter by picking up another touchdown for the Mustangs 15-0. The Cougars pick up a safety by a Mustang’s high snap in the endzone 15-2. Jay’s kicker Jonathan Gonzalles picks up a 35 yard field goal 18-2.
Late in the second quarter Matthew Gomez gets into the endzone for another Jay touchdown 25-2. Andrei Moron Mustangs WR picks off an interception to stop the Cougars attempt to chip away at the impressive Mustang lead in the first half. The Mustangs kneel the ball to end the half with a 23 point lead.
Returning from the locker room Cougars David Santos gets a much needed touchdown 25-9. Cameryn Bell for the Cougars catches a 10 yard pass for a touchdown followed by a Clark 2 point conversion 25-17. Cougars try an onside kick but fails to recover giving the Mustangs the opportunity to kneel the ball on their possession to win the game 25-17.
What’s next?: Both teams square off again next Thursday. John Jay will travel to Gustafson Stadium to battle the Brennan Bears, while Clark take on Taft Raiders at Farris Stadium.
