Holy Cross 23, Central Catholic 17
Chris Melero rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns, leading Holy Cross to a 23-17 win over Central Catholic in the 48th Holy Bowl.
Melero scored on runs of one and eight yards for the Knights. Jacob Olivares added a 6-yard scoring run.
Buttons got on the with two minutes left in the 2nd quarter when Alejandro Chavarria kicked a 25-yard field goal.
Knights lead at the half 14-3.
Central Catholics had struggled to move the ball prior to its first touchdown, and the Buttons were down 14–3 after the first half. In the top of the 3rd quarter from Knights 5-yard line, Gibby Garza found a hole in sped through for the first Buttons TD. Christian Allen also added a 5-yard scoring run in the 4th quarter.
The Knights kicker Rudy Flores kicked a 37-yard field goal to end the scoring on the night. Knights win 23-17.
What’s next?: Both teams square off again Friday night with non-conference games. Holy Cross will travel to Boerne, while Central Catholic travel to Seguin.
