Harlan 41, McCollum 7
Sophomore Aubrey McDade rushed for 201 yards and four touchdowns and threw the air as first-year varsity program Harlan moved to 4-1 on the season with a 41-7 victory over McCollum to open District 14-5A-I competition for both teams.
McDade’s fast start allowed the Hawks to gain a 21-0 advantage at halftime. McDade opened the scoring with a 1-yard run less than two minutes into the game before hitting Ethan Esparza on a 34-yard touchdown pass to give the Hawks a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.
Sophomore quarterback Kannon Williams completed 18-of-22 passes for 128 yards and added a fourth-quarter touchdown run to put the game away for the Hawks.
For McCollum, sophomore Ryan Ramirez completed 17-of-27 passes for 182 yards to lead the Cowboys, while Diego Gomez scored on a 39-yard run in the third quarter to get McCollum on the scoreboard.
Harlan (4-1, 1-0) will take on Harlandale next Thursday night on the road, while McCollum (0-4, 0-1) will search for its first victory of the season when it hosts Eagle Pass Winn next Friday.
