OK3Sports Football: Churchill Chargers vs Clark Cougars
First Look: OK3Sports Photojournalist Ed Garcia’s raw edit from the high school football game featuring Churchill Chargers vs Clark Cougars at Comalander Stadium in San Antonio, TX., on Thursday, August 30, 2018.
Churchill rallied late in a Gucci Bowl contest that was delayed by a blown transformer, claiming a 28-21 victory over Clark on Thursday Night Lights. It marked the ninth straight victory over the Cougars in the annual rivalry game that usually kicks off the city football slate in San Antonio.
Churchill’s new ground and pound offense rushed for 312 yards on 61 carries, but Derek Perez’s two touchdowns through the air were the difference. Perez only completed two passes on the night with his 10-yard scoring strike to Liam Capobianco with 0:17 left proving the be the game winner. Perez led the Chargers (1-0, 0-0) in rushing with 93 yards.
Junior Eric Wente rushed for a pair of scores as the Cougars dropped their ninth straight decision in the Gucci Bowl. Clark’s offense could only muster four first downs on the evening. Wente’s rushing scores came 12 seconds apart in the third quarter as the Cougars stormed to a 21-13 lead. (By
