Adidas Summer Championships: Most Outstanding Player
By Marcus Carr, 07/14/19
Hoover, Ala. — Adidas Summer Championships brought in all the top talent from 15u to 17u filled with rising stars throughout the country. There were plenty of players deserving of most outstanding players as there were tons of players who turned a lot of heads this weekend but 2021 forward, Jabari Smith of Atlanta Celtics stole the show as the Celtics captured the 16u Adidas Summer Championship.
The 6’8” forward was stellar throughout the weekend, especially on the offensive end, he led all scorers averaging 23 points per game. Smith had his way on all three levels this weekend making it tough for players his size to guard him due to his ability to take them off of the dribble. His frame is ready to play at any level and he’s started to fill it out as well. He took his game to another level when his team’s back was against the wall in the championship game, down 14 Smith hit two 3 pointers then two 15-foot jump shots to pull them back into it. He continued to make plays down the stretch giving them the opportunity to take out New World. On the defensive end, he is an active defender who plays with high intensity and has a will to be physical in the paint against centers since he is the biggest player on the Celtics.
Smith is active on the boards and if he can set up his teammates more on the offensive end by distributing the ball there is a case he could be a top 5 player in a stiff 2021 class. Without his play this weekend, the Celtics are unlikely to win the 16U Summer Championship or pull themselves back into the championship game which is why Jabari Smith earned Most Outstanding Player for the Adidas Summer Championships.
