If you had any question about Converse Judson’s ability to run the table in District 26-6A and to Arlington out of Region IV, those questions have been answered in emphatic fashion. At D.W. Rutledge Stadium, top-ranked Converse Judson steamrolled No. 4 Cibolo Steele, 58-21.

Three long Sincere McCormick touchdown runs and another solid performance by junior quarterback Mike Chandler II boosted the Rockets as they move to 3-0 on the season while opening its District 26-6A slate with a victory. Last week’s visit to Harlingen was called off due to weather, giving the Rockets an off week before the visit from Steele.

On the first possession of the game, an errant punt snap over the head of running back McCormick was an early gut punch, giving the Knights its first possession of the night from the 3-yard line. After two plays, junior running back De’Quavion Thomas would score from two yards out to get Steele on the scoreboard early.

Judson stepped up its offensive tempo with talented junior quarterback Mike Chandler II at the controls. After 13 career starts, Chandler has a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 23-to-1. After helping Chandler kick-start the offense, McCormick replied a short time later with a 30-yard touchdown run.

Judson rushed for 245 yards in the first half and did not take much longer in the second half to keep up the pressure on the Knights.

McCormick’s third touchdown run of the night came from 52 yards away with just 1:08 into the second half to give the Rockets and commanding an insurmountable lead by the score of 44-14.

Chandler finished with two touchdown passes and a touchdown run. Chandler rushed for the first touchdown the night for Judson from 27 yards out before hitting on a 66-yard touchdown pass to emerging junior Amarea Bailey. Later, Chandler found Aniyah Spencer on a 49-yard scoring strike.

McCormick, a UTSA commit, finished with 172 yards on 14 carries, while sophomore De’Anthony Lewis paced the Rockets with 139 yards on 12 carries and a fourth-quarter touchdown.

Steele will have no time to relax as the Battle of 3009 has been moved to Week 5 at Lehnhoff Stadium in Schertz. The 2-2 Knights defeated the Buffaloes in a crucial playoff seeding decider, 14-13.

Judson will travel to Rattler Stadium up I-35 to face San Marcos (1-3) next Friday.
