Brennan 49, Taft 12
Jordan Flores threw for 324 yards and four touchdowns as Brennan moved to 2-0 in District 28-6A with a 49-12 victory over Taft on Thursday night.
Flores completed 13-of-26 through the air on the night, averaging nearly 25 yards per completion. After trailing 3-0 in the first quarter, Flores hooked up with junior Darryon Tolefree on a 68-yard quick hit with Tolefree doing most of the work to get Brennan on the board.
Underrated wide receiver Jordan Smith scored four touchdowns in the victory and finished with 176 yards on five catches with three going for touchdowns. Smith scored on a 5-year run to help give the Bears (2-2, 2-0) a 14-10 lead after the first quarter.
Just before halftime, Flores found Smith on a 69-yard touchdown pass as time expired to give Brennan a 28-12 lead at the break.
In the second half, Smith and Flores hooked up two more times from 40 and 42 yards out, respectively. Amani Arvelo led the Brennan ground attack with 75 yards on 13 carries, while Tolefree paced the Bears with four catches for 97 yards.
For Taft (2-2, 0-2), Diego Martinez led the ground gainers with 50 yards, while Brandon King caught four passes for 54 yards. Anthony Guerrero returned a fumble 50 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter to give the Raiders a brief 10-7 lead.
In Week 5, Brennan will take on unbeaten Brandeis at Farris Stadium, while Taft will play O’Connor next Thursday at Gustafson Stadium.
