In what was described as a throwback game by many in attendance including head coach Ed Domsitz, Alter was able to hold off Centerville 10-7 on Friday night.

Lamar Landers reached the end zone with less than two minutes to play for to give Alter the only visit to the end zone it would need. With the victory, Alter moves to 2-1 on the campaign after dropping its season opener with Fairmont.

Centerville fell to 0-3 on the season with the loss and has not been victorious since a Division I playoff victory in 2017. Freshman quarterback Chase Harrison scored the only touchdown of the game in the first half from 5 yards out to give Centerville a 7-3 halftime lead.

Missouri commit Connor Bazelak spearheaded the game-winning drive and had to previous shots at getting on the scoreboard thwarted by interceptions in the end zone. Bazelak did just enough in a clutch situation and finished 25 of 48 through the air for 223 yards in the victory.

Both teams will be defending the home turf next week Archbishop Alter takes on Roger Bacon at 7:00 PM. Centerville will defend their home turf against Springfield at 7:00 PM.
