2019 Adidas Summer Championships Top Performers and Stock Risers
Hoover, Alabama– The 2019 Adidas Summer Championships have come to conclusion after a great weekend of hoops in Hoover, Alabama at the very nice Hoover Metropolitan Complex facility. There was a bunch of talent on display at the Adidas Gauntlet event and with it being a live period, a plethora of college coaches, head coaches, and scouts were in the building as well. Below we will take a look at the top five individual performers and the top stock risers from the weekend.
Top Five Individual Performers
2020 F Henry Coleman – Team Loaded (VA)
The most valuable player of the 17U division is without question Henry Coleman III of Team Loaded (VA). He held an amazing overall stat line of 19.0 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game, 2.2 steals per game, and 1.4 blocks per game. Henry was on a whole other level energy-wise playing with a very high motor. He scored most of his points from inside the paint around the basket and with a few powerful finishes. He showed his defensive versatility as well by guarding the bigs he faced, one of those being top-ranked 2020 C Makur Maker.
2020 SG Marjon Beauchamp – ML20 Enforcers (OR)
The 6-foot-5 shooting guard Marjon Beauchamp probably had the quietest scoring performance throughout the weekend averaging 20.5 points per game for ML20 Enforcers. Beauchamp certainly proved he could be considered one of the best scorers in the class. He is an elite shot-maker with great length and can score on all three levels of the floor. Beauchamp is a solid athlete, has a nice elevation on his jumper, and once he improves on his strength he will be very hard to contain.
2020 C Walker Kessler – Game Elite (FL)
The most skilled big man in the 2020 class is without a doubt, Walker Kessler. The 7-foot-0 big man averaged 18.6 points per game while snagging down 8.5 rebounds per game. Kessler has unique footwork with such a fluid offensive game. He is not your average 7-footer. He is extremely skilled and is able to spread the defense and open up the paint with his shot-making abilities. Kessler was also a force on the glass and made himself a paint presence down low by altering and blocking shots.
2020 SG Keon Johnson – EAB (TN)
Although his team did not advance in the gold bracket, the rising senior Keon Johnson was arguably the best all around prospect throughout the weekend. Johnson averaged 23.0 points per game while shooting an amazing 66.7 percent from the field in his six games. The 6-foot-3 two-guard put on an incredible scoring display this weekend and at one point had a 30-point game while shooting perfect from the field. Keon continues to improve in his shooting and it showed this weekend in Hoover. Tennessee, Virginia, and Ohio State remain in his top three lists of schools.
2020 PG Andre Curbelo – NY Jayhawks (NY)
The 6-foot-1 point guard Andre Curbelo plays with such poise and makes the game look so easy when he is on the floor. Coming from his FIBA U19 outing with his home country of Puerto Rico, Curbelo had himself a stellar performance averaging 17.7 points per game and 6.2 assists per game. He is such a fundamentally sounded point guard who creates opportunities for his teammates to score at high level. Andre has an elite IQ and will be a solid four-year player at the next level someday.
Stock Risers
2020 G Caleb Murphy – Atlanta Celtics (GA)
His overall stats might not display how good Caleb Murphy played this weekend, but he was the most noticed playmaker out there. Murphy has been one of the nations top breakout prospects and was locked in all weekend leading the Atlanta Celtics to the 17U title. Murphy is a playmaking combo guard on both ends of the floor. He is the hustle guy, an elite caliber defender, and holds good size at his position. Caleb will always stand out due to his non-stop motor on him. Texas A&M and TCU are his latest offers after this past weekend.
2020 SG Kerwin Walton – D1 Minnesota (MN)
Kerwin Walton lit this weekend on fire with his outstanding three-point shooting this past weekend. One of the biggest stock risers of the weekend, Walton hit ten three’s in just one game and hit five three’s in his next game. He was 15-23 from three-point land in back-to-back games. Kerwin also showed his on-ball defensive skills guarding some of the best players from each team he faced. Since his performance out in Alabama, he has earned offers from Miami, Iowa, Iowa State, and Virginia Tech.
2020 PG Caleb Byrd – Game Elite JB (GA)
Caleb Byrd has been on my under the radar prospects list throughout the AAU season with Game Elite JB. If you are looking for solid, tough, and shot-making guard then Caleb Byrd is your guy. The 6-foot-0 point guard averaged a very well 17.8 points per game this past weekend in Hoover. He is a reliable shot maker, plays with great toughness on both ends of the floor, and is a ball-handling guard who holds off-ball value by playing the two-guard position at times. His stock has been rising all year but I believe college coaches got a good look this past weekend.
2020 F Zed Key – NY Jayhawks (NY)
After having a stellar NBA Top 100 Camp last month in June, Zed Key was one of my targets I decided to watch in an actual game setting. No surprise that I was impressed with his play. The 6-foot-8 big man averaged 17.2 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game. Zed is a versatile player and especially on the defensive end. He earns his points inside and around the basket and has one of the best post-game skills in his class. USC has been his recent offer after a standout weekend.
